Wayne R. Cannon

WHITE STONE—On Thursday, October 17, 2024, Wayne R. Cannon of White Stone, surrounded by his wife and daughters, went to be with the Lord.

He was the devoted husband of Nancy Cannon; loving father of Cheryl (John) Castro, Denise (Glen) Shaffer, Kristy Cannon (Derek Sparks) and Lauren (James) Glassman; brother of the late Mariane Kammerer; grandfather of Heather (Bernie) McKeever, Brendan (Molly) Shaffer, Meagan (Max) Kleess, Kaylyn Shaffer, Alexandra Shaffer, Piper Glassman and Mason Glassman; and great-grandfather to Maisie Shaffer, Maren McKeever, Kellan Kleess, Lillian McKeever, Sutton Shaffer, Crew Kleess, Palmer Shaffer and Quinn McKeever.

Born and raised in Alexandria, he was the son of Barney and Helen Cannon. He attended Annandale High School and graduated in 1957. He remained close with his childhood friends, brothers Bill and Andy Higham.

Wayne learned the trade of masonry at an early age, worked hard to form his own masonry company, and retired after 17 years. In retirement he enjoyed spending his time boating and fishing on the Rappahannock River or on his motorcycle traveling across the country with his wife. Wayne enjoyed the holiday season when his whole family would come together and celebrate.

He was an avid member of the Island Church in White Stone where he was a trustee. Many members of the Island Church became family over the years and he cherished the time together.

A visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. October 25 at Jefferson Funeral Chapel, 5755 Castlewellan Drive, Alexandria, and a funeral service the following morning at 11 am. Interment will immediately follow at Union Cemetery, 323 North King Street, Leesburg.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice of Virginia, specifically Tappahannock (Virginia) Branch or a charity of your choice.
