What does FREEDOM mean to you?

As we approach our country’s semiquincentennial anniversary on July 4, 2026—marking exactly 250 years since the adoption of the Declaration of Independence—we want to know what that milestone means to you. Share your expressions, ideas and thoughts about FREEDOM.

This could be a photograph, artwork, poem or a short, 350-word or less essay. Submissions are open to all ages. Your submission could appear in a special The United States of America@250 supplement appearing in the Rappahannock Record and Southside Sentinel on July 2.

Send submissions by Wednesday, June 17, by email to editor@rapprecord.com or editor@ssentinel.com; mail to Rappahannock Record, PO Box 400, Kilmarnock 22482; or Southside Sentinel, PO Box 549, Urbanna, 23175; or drop it by the Record office, 20 North Main Street, Kilmarnock or Sentinel, 276 Virginia Street, Urbanna.

Show us your patriotism as we celebrate our country’s birthday.
