White Stone council hears issue blamed on new sewage system

WHITE STONE—Business owner Chris Sanford is asking White Stone Town Council to help her pay for an unexpected expense relating to the new public sewage system.

“I’m paying $5,040 a year and now I’m looking at about $3,500 for a pumpout,” Sanford told council during the public comment portion of its August 1 meeting.

The owner of Ice House Drive Apartments in White Stone, Sanford said she pays $30 per month in septic utility fees for each of her 14 apartments. And recently she had a backup requiring a septic pumpout.

“What I’m asking for is a reduced rate to recoup the money that I had to spend that I wasn’t planning to. It’s a huge expense for a small business,” she said.

Sanford was asking the town to reduce her bill by either $58 per month for 60 months or $72 per month for 48 months.
