WHITE STONE—The Town of White Stone may soon have a free neighborhood resource where those in need can get non-perishable foods, toiletries and even a few small clothing items.
Named the “Blessing Box” by town council member AnnGardner Eubank, the free food and essentials pantry idea was met with enthusiasm at the September council meeting and the subject was discussed further on Thursday, October 1. A few changes were recommended.
Eubank previously suggested the pantry be placed in front of the town office in the trolley stop shelter. However, council members agreed a better location would be in a rear corner of the Village Green.
The Village Green is better for those walking, the lighting is better and “it may be better for those who don’t feel comfortable with people maybe seeing them using it,” the way they would right in front of the town office, said town manager Patrick Frere.
By consensus, council agreed on the new location and told Eubank to continue to investigate construction costs….
