WHITE STONE—William Albert “Bill” Nunn III, 80, of White Stone passed away on September 13, 2017. He was born on December 26, 1936, in Borger, Texas.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Ute E. Nunn; son, Franklin W. Nunn; daughters, Kathleen R. Taft (Tony) and Sabina U. Wighington (Chris); grandchildren, Eric M. Taft (Rachel), Cassandra E. Quick, Jacob R. Taft, and Rachel K. Taft; brothers, Albert Nelson “Spike” Nunn (Rebecca) and Franklin N. Nunn (Bert); sister, Katherine N. Wallace; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William Albert Nunn Jr. and Flora Nelson Nunn; his sister, Martha N. “Misty” Elbourn; and brothers-in law, Joseph B. Elbourn Jr. and Richard Wallace.
He graduated from University of Wyoming with a bachelor’s in January 1959. He then served in the U.S. Army for two years before attending the University of Heidelberg in Germany where he met his wife and was married in December 1961.
Mr. Nunn decided to finish his PhD in philosophy at the University of Virginia and graduated in 1967. He then taught at the University of East Tennessee for two years.
In 1969, he went back into the Army and served in Vietnam until he was injured. He was honorably discharged and received the purple heart. In 1975, he received his law degree from American University and served as assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney for Arlington County for 7-1/2 years.
Mr. Nunn moved back home to the Northern Neck and practiced law until his retirement in 2009. He loved skydiving, horseback riding, gardening and just loved the outdoors.
A Mass of Resurrection was held at 11 a.m. September 19 at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, Kilmarnock. Interment followed the service in the church cemetery. Family received friends from 5 to 7 p.m. September 18, at Currie Funeral Home. A Rosary service was held at 7 p.m.
