
WHITE STONE—William Edward “Bill” Sullivan, 83, of White Stone and formerly of Hartfield, passed peacefully on Sunday, June 1, 2025, surrounded by family.
Bill was born February 28, 1942, in Washington, D.C., to John Fallon and Thelma Simmons Sullivan. He graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in Richmond and attended college at VMI and ODU. While attending ODU, Bill met the love of his life, Ann Massey, who he married on August 29, 1964. They enjoyed 60 years of marriage.
Bill had a 37-year career with the Virginia Department of Transportation, retiring in 2001 as the resident engineer for the Saluda Residency. After his retirement, he and Ann built their dream home on Dymer Creek and loved being surrounded by cousins and friends.
Bill loved to fish, play golf and tennis. He enjoyed watching all sports, but especially basketball. He and Ann were faithful fans of the Middlesex Chargers and later the Lancaster Red Devils.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents; and grandparents, William E. and Chewning George Simmons of White Stone and John E. and Frances Bell Sullivan of Harrisonburg.
Bill is survived by his wife, Ann; daughter, Beth and husband Stephen Zinner Sr. of Bel Air, Md.; grandchildren, Brooks Zinner (Jessie) of Bel Air, Emily Zinner of Newark, Del., Joshua Zinner (Kelsey) of Forest Hill, Md., and Stephen Zinner Jr. of Joppa, Md.; and great-grandchildren Avery and Ari Zinner. He is also survived by two brothers, John F. Sullivan Jr. of Clinton, Miss., and Frederick C. Sullivan of West Grove, Pa.; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, June 9, at Currie Funeral Home in Kilmarnock. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. In honor of Bill’s wishes, casual attire is requested.
