WHITE STONE—William J. Rottkamp, 87, of White Stone passed away on his birthday, March 23, 2024, after a battle with dementia.
He was born in Queens, N.Y., and lived in Baldwin, Long Island, for 57 years. After serving 33 years with the Fire Department of New York, he made White Stone his home for 30 years.
Bill will be remembered by all who knew him as a warm, friendly person, who enjoyed sailing, traveling, visiting with friends, spending time at the boat yard, or simply watching the watermen and wildlife on the Rappahannock River from his home, while reading the NY Times.
Bill is survived by his son, William Rottkamp Jr. of Baldwin; his daughter, Anne Marie Rottkamp-Dooney of Rockville Centre, N.Y.; his daughter, Laura Field of Moorestown, N.J.; his son, Eric Rottkamp of State College, Pa.; and 10 grandchildren. He also is survived by his wife, Julie Rottkamp (Rose) of Annapolis, Md.
A memorial mass will be held at 11 a.m. April 12 at Saint Christopher’s Catholic Church, Baldwin, with reception to follow at the Freeport Yacht Club, Freeport, N.Y.
