HEATHSVILLE—Winifred “Winnie” Bradshaw Dawson, 91, of Heathsville, passed away Monday, December 3, 2018.
After graduating from Heathsville High School, Winifred worked in Washington, D.C., from 1944 until 1948, when she married William Henry Dawson. Winifred and Henry were married for over six decades, during which time she opened and operated Dawson’s Department Store in Heathsville for 15 years.
After retirement, Winifred traveled with her husband, volunteered with the Mid-County Rescue Squad Auxiliary, and participated in various committees at Smithland Baptist Church.
Winnie is survived by her daughter, Karen Jett (Fred); three granddaughters, Kim O’Bier (Stan), Kelly Jett (Edrion Gawaran) and Katherine Jett and five great-grandchildren, Logan, Mallory, Andrew, Grace and Gavin.
She is preceded in death by her parents, William Henry Bradshaw and Elsie Lewis Bradshaw; husband, William Henry Dawson, and son, William Henry Dawson Jr.
A funeral service was held at 2 p.m. on Friday, December 7, at Smithland Baptist Church with interment following in the church cemetery. The family received friends from 1-2 p.m. before the funeral service at the church.
