Winter storm sidelines school sports

Winter Storm Grayson, with its snow and freezing temperatures, has wreaked havoc on high school sports schedules. With schools closed for four days and all weekend activities cancelled, area athletic directors are scrambling to reschedule dozens of basketball games.

Lancaster High’s girls basketball and boys basketball games against Washington & Lee, Colonial Beach and Mathews were all postponed. No make-up dates have been set, LHS athletic director Dave Zeiler reported on Monday, January 8.

A wrestling invitational at Mathews, with several competing teams from the Northern Neck including Lancaster, will not be rescheduled.

The LHS boys basketball team will go to Rappahannock tomorrow, January 12, and to Middlesex on Saturday, January 13. The Lady Devils will host Rappahannock tonight, January 11, and host Middlesex on Saturday.

The LHS wrestlers are scheduled to travel to Northampton this weekend for an invitational, and the girls and boys indoor track teams will compete at the Boo Williams Complex in Hampton on Saturday.
