LOTTSBURG—Rev. Dr. John C. Seltzer, D.Min, MAPC, BSR, of the Toys for Tots organization, spoke to The Woman’s Club of Northumberland County on October 13. Rev. Seltzer is also a chaplain with the Marine Corps.
According to first vice president Catherine M. Brincefield, the club members learned that the local Toys for Tots organization only has one employee and otherwise completes its mission using volunteers for everything else. Almost the entire amount of any monetary donation goes directly to the Toys for Tots mission due to this low overhead, said Brincefield.
If used toys are donated they may be distributed by emergency responders in situations such as a home fire, where children may be comforted with a toy, said Rev. Seltzer. Additionally, when there is an abundance of donated books, the Toys for Tots organization will share the books with the school system or The Haven.
Club members were glad to receive a box for toy collection which will be available on October 26 at its Bingo Fundraiser, for participants who wish to bring a toy donation, said Brincefield…..
