Yacht club celebrates early

Commodore Win Schwab offers a New Year’s Eve toast at Yankee Point Yacht Club’s early holiday dinner celebration.

Acting on the certainty that it was midnight somewhere in the world and recognizing everyone’s reluctance to drive late at night on New Year’s Eve, Yankee Point Yacht Club members and guests said goodbye to 2024 and hello to 2025 during a 5-7:30 p.m. celebration at their clubhouse in Lancaster.

The event, an occasion for reflection, merriment and anticipation of a bright future, featured charcuterie cones, creamy tomato soup with homemade dinner rolls, spinach salad with strawberries and a light vinaigrette, Alaskan wild-caught baked cod with parm and panko and red velvet cake with ermine frosting.

The highlight of the event was an entertaining address by commodore Win Schwab, who opened his New Year’s Eve message by welcoming “landlubbers” as well as active sailors.

Noting that he was being honest, he likened his position as commodore to that of sailing a boat: “moments of calm, bursts of excitement and the occasional storm….
