The celebration of our nation’s birthday is special in so many ways—parades, barbecues and picnics—but nowhere is it more joyful than when we come together with our grandchildren. They have the incredible power to gladden our hearts and make us smile at the world around us, simply by being a part of it and allowing us to see things through their eyes. Their innocence brings us joy, their energy keeps us young and their future brings us hope.
They also bring back memories. No one asks them to do this. It just happens. Spontaneously, much like a ray of sunshine that breaks through a cloud.
At the Yankee Point Yacht Club’s (YPYC) Fourth of July celebration, the presence of grandchildren and their families inspired longtime member and former commodore John Henley to put his thoughts on paper….
