Young Lady Indians make it to state soccer semifinals

Northumberland High School went unbeaten at 5-0 in the Northern Neck District and finished the year with a 7-1 record during a shortened girls soccer season.

That was no small feat for a young team with only two players with varsity experience and five of the six freshmen new to the sport, according to coach Mark Fridenstine.

The varsity Lady Indians scored 40 goals against district opponents. Center midfielder Layla Leo led the charge with 25 goals and five hat tricks. She now has the second highest single season scoring…
