Youth Acting Workshop performances set

Opera singer Deborah Miller opened a recent rehearsal of the Youth Acting Workshop by singing several arias. She talked about the techniques and perseverance it takes for a career in the arts or any walk of life. “Pick something in life that makes you light up with joy,” she said.

The Youth Acting Workshop sponsored by the Lancaster Players and directed by Rebecca Tebbs Nunn, will perform two shows, the first at 7 p.m. Friday, July 14, and the second at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 15.

The shows will be presented at The Lancaster Playhouse, 361 Chesapeake Drive, White Stone.

The students have been in classes since July 5 and with only eight days of rehearsals will present a show written by Nunn entitled “Anything Goes.”

Guest professional Deborah Miller from Northern Virginia on July 10 spoke to the 39 students. Miller is an experienced, adept and versatile artist whose repertoire spans five centuries of classical music.

She has a master’s in vocal performance from the University of Texas, has studied voice in both Europe and New York, and has performed over 20 leading opera roles. She has sung at hundreds of concerts and oratorios in Europe and the U.S. and sang Phaedra in the world premiere of “Hippolytus.”
