Yankee Point Yacht Club held its heat-delayed Pursuit Race on June 29, earning high praises as the best race of the past two seasons.
The race had been postponed two weeks due to an extreme heat forecast but the early morning weather was perfect for the final race of the club’s spring series, reported former commodore John Henley. The committee boat (CB) was underway early, clouds in the southeast had the appearance of a Tortolla morning with rain gear being more necessary than sunscreen.
As the CB entered the Rappahannock barely past the Corrotoman River entrance, the SE wind was about 8 knots and primed for a great day on the water. The starting mark was set, then a south easterly course was made reaching for one mile, which would be one-fourth of the length of the racecourse at four miles.
As the eight-boat racing fleet arrived and checked in with the race committee, the feeling of a special day was ….
