Joseph ‘Joe’ Curry

KILMARNOCK—Joseph “Joe” Curry of Kilmarnock died September 14, 2017. He was born in Ditchley on August 30, 1933, to the late Alonzo M. Curry and Mary Elizabeth Carter Curry.

He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, Kilmarnock, and was educated in the public schools of Northumberland County.

At age 18, he joined the U.S. Marine Corps and served in the Korean War. Soon after his return home, he met and married the late Rosa L. Moody Curry.

He worked for many years as a waterman and sold seafood. In the 1980s, he established Curry and Curry Seafood, which evolved into Curry and Curry Pottery in Kilmarnock.

Joe was a member of many organizations including Interfaith Service Council, The Kiwanis, The Red Cross, Habitat for Humanity, Chesapeake Investment Group, Rappahannock Westminster-Canterbury, Bay Aging and the Boys and Girls Club of the Northern Neck.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Alonzo Curry; his daughter, Patricia Curry Laws; and his loving wife, Rosa L. Moody Curry.

He is survived by his children, Pamela Munford of Henrico, James Curry of Heathsville, Joseph Curry of Somerton, Ariz., and Priscilla L. Curry of Weems; grandchildren, Marcus Curry, Brook Hudnall, Jason Curry, Travis Hudnall, Quincy Munford, Jordon Curry, NaJee’ Laws and Nia Curry; 10 great-grandchildren; brothers Jaycee Curry, Carroll Curry, Morgan Curry, Floyd Curry and Bill Curry; sisters, Thelma Fisher, Josephine Brown, Carolyn Curry, Margaret Hawkins and Eldine Curry; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A memorial service was held September 23 at Lancaster Middle School, Kilmarnock. Repass followed at the Boys and Girls Club of the Northern Neck.
