LMS band rental night set August 23

Lancaster Middle School will hold band instrument rental night at 7 p.m. Thursday, August 23, in the LMS cafeteria. Beginning band students will be able to rent or purchase instruments if they have not done so already, as well as purchase supplies and method books.

“All band students should be ready to play the first day of school. It’s going to be an exciting year, so we want to get started right away,” said director Kenny Flester.

Beginner students will need the method book, Essential Elements Book One for their instrument. Percussionists will need a stick bag, a pair of snare sticks and a pair of bell mallets. Concert and symphonic band members will need Foundations for Superior Performance.

“Both concert and symphonic bands will be using this book extensively this year, so it’s really important everyone has one,” said Flester. “All band students should make sure they have everything they need before the first day of school.”

These books and materials may be ordered the same night, he said. Supplies such as reeds and valve oil will also be available for purchase.

Parents who are unable to make rental night, are urged to call Flester at LMS, 462-5100, ext. 2904, or House of Music, 435-6400.

Flester also reminds students about the mouthpiece and clapping tests.

“If any sixth graders want to be in band but have not been in to take this five minute test, it’s very important they contact me as soon as they can,” he said.
