Smith Point Sea Rescue Report

Smith Point Sea Rescue vice president Jim Bullard reported crews recently responded to the following calls for assistance.

December 16: At 10:25 a.m., the Northumberland County Sheriff’s Office (NCSO) received a call from a concerned citizen who saw a man waving as he stood in his stationary power boat afloat in Ingram Bay. Rescue 1 was dispatched from Reedville with two crew aboard. They searched Ingram Bay then followed the wind and searched the Dameron Marsh area but could not find the boat.

They then motored to Ingram Bay Marina to learn a good Samaritan had towed the boat to safety. Time on call, 1.5 hours.

December 24: At 9:30 a.m., the NCSO called for assistance finding a missing boat/boater. A Reedville resident had departed on his 24-foot Grady White to go fishing alone from Cockrell Creek on December 23. When he failed to return his wife called NCSO.

Smith Point Sea Rescue joined with the Coast Guard to search for the boat. Rescue 1 with a crew of three was instructed to search the Chesapeake Bay south from the Great Wicomico River. In rough seas the missing boat was not…
