St. Christopher’s wins Soucek memorial soccer tournament

Marcie Soucek Eberline and Andrew Soucek were on the sidelines last weekend for the 20th Jason Soucek Memorial Soccer Tournament at Christ Church School to honor their brother, Jason.

Eberline and Soucek presented trophies to the tournament champion St. Christopher’s School of Richmond, and runner up and tournament host, Christchurch School.

Other schools in the tournament were Hampton Roads Academy of Newport News, Trinity School at Meadow View of Falls Church, Carlisle School of Martinsville, Eastern Mennonite High School of Harrisonburg and Atlantic Shores Christian School of Chesapeake.

On their way to second place in the tournament, Christchurch School beat Atlantic Shores, 7-1, and Trinity Episcopal, 1-0, before losing to St. Christopher’s School, 3-0, in the tournament final. The Seahorses are coached by Matt Schaefer and Justin Cook.

The tournament is held annually in memory of Christchurch graduate and Middlesex County resident Jason Carpenter Soucek, Class of 1992, the son of Archie, Class of 1961, and Claudia Soucek of Saluda. Jason Soucek died in 1996, while a student at Roanoke College. Marcie Soucek Eberline is a 2000 Christchurch graduate.
