Viola E. Williams

KILMARNOCK—Viola Elaine “V” Williams died November 13, 2017, at Lancashire Convalescent & Rehabilitation Center in Kilmarnock.

Viola was born in Ditchley on July 20, 1943, to the late Jerome and Nora Mary Johnson Carter. She was educated in Northumberland County public schools.

Viola was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, Kilmarnock. She served as church clerk and on the senior usher and women’s ministries.

After graduating from Central High School-Heathsville in June 1961, she moved to Washington, D.C., where she held positions as an IBM key punch operator, secretary for Government Services of America and secretary for the U.S. Marshall’s Office. Relocating to Virginia, she was a certified nursing assistant for West Minister.

In addition to her mother and father, she was predeceased by her brother, Jerome Carter Jr.; and her husband, Carlton Williams.

She is survived by her sons, Darrell, Duane and Sahn; sisters, Barbara Ann Nails, Mildred Reid, Linda Carter and Deborah Ransmeier; brothers, William Rogers Carter and Eddie Carter; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

A funeral was held November 17 at Calvary Baptist Church.
