White Stone UMC to host hymn singing

Fall music night at the White Stone United Methodist Church October 19 will feature a community hymn singing. The fun and fellowship will begin at 7 p.m. in the church music hall, 148 Methodist Church Road, White Stone.

Donations are welcome to help musicians offset their travel, gear and other expenses, noted organizer Douglas P. Somervell

“It is our honor to introduce to the area the very talented pianist and vocalist Valentina Sorba from Hampton,” said Somervell.

Sorba was born in Pisa, Italy, and received her bachelor’s and master’s in piano performance from the Conservatory of Music P. Mascagni in Livorno, Italy. She completed courses in advanced music theory, tonal harmony, music history, piano performance, piano literature and piano four hands (two players on one piano).

In 1996, she was awarded second place in the piano four hands category at the national piano competition “Riviera della Versilia” in Lucca, Italy. In 2006, she was awarded a music scholarship and performed in a recital celebrating the anniversary of Mozart’s birth at the Conservatory of Music P. Mascagni, and in 2008, she performed in various solo recitals in Pisa and Livorno, Italy…
