$16.9M school budget includes raises; comments on diversity needs continue

A proposed $16,926,053 Lancaster school budget for fiscal year 2019-20 got a unanimous green light, 4-0, from school board members on March 12.

The budget represents a 1.55% increase of $258,904 over the 2018-19 budget of $16,667,149 and, notably, includes a 4% raise for teachers and 2% for administration and staff, a boost the board hopes will put the county in a more competitive position in terms of hiring and retaining school employees.

Voting were school board members Kenya Moody, Carolyn Young, Joan Gravatt and Katherine Keith. Board chairman Audrey Thomasson was out of town.
