Supervisors seek clarity in proposed school budget

The Lancaster school board and board of supervisors on March 11 held a joint work session at the county administration building to review a proposed school budget of $16.9 million for fiscal year 2019-20.

Assistant superintendent Dan Russell identified major budget points including a requested 4% raise for teachers, 2% raise for all other school employees, level funding for employee health insurance, a reduced number of positions through attrition, a re-evaluation of transportation costs and a reduction of maintenance costs to priority only.

Supervisor Jack Larson asked for clarification on several items, including transportation fuel costs, the necessity of including certain school employees in the budget rather than covering their salaries through….
