$19.4 million sought for Northumberland schools

CLARAVILLE—The Northumberland school board on Monday, March 4, voted unanimously, 4-0, to accept the district’s proposed $19,451,133 budget for the 2019-20 school year and send it to the board of supervisors for approval.

Board members Betty Christopher, Gayle Sterrett, Mary Hooper and Dana O’Bier voted in favor of the proposed budget. Member Gerald Howard was absent.

The proposed budget, which represents an increase of $1,250,135 over last year, includes a 3% raise in salary for teachers and staff at a cost of $468,514. Current employees of the school district are also projected to receive an 11.4% increase in their health insurance…
