SUFFOLK—James H. Marston, 48, of Suffolk passed away Monday, April 27, 2026, after a long and courageous battle with colon cancer. He was surrounded by loved ones in his death and was a warrior to the end.
James was a devoted husband, father, son, brother, uncle and friend. He is survived in marriage by his wife Beth of 17 years; and two beautiful daughters, Lauren, 16, and Samantha, 12. He is also survived by his grandmother, Charlotte; his mother, Gayle; sister, Sarah (Mike); and brother, Philip (Amanda). He was a beloved uncle to Gunnar, Jilli, Chuck, Chrissy, Grant and Sadie.
He is preceded in death by his father, Dr. Sam Marston; and sister, Emily Gayle.
After graduating from Christopher Newport University in 2000, James began his career working in the hospitality and marina industry. He worked at local marinas as a dock master and manager. James was a devoted sports fan and played soccer as a youth and collegiate.
James will be remembered for his quick wit, competitiveness, passion for life and his tender heart. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed nothing more than hunting with his best friend and brother, Philip. For him, any day was a good day when a deer crossed his path, a turkey gobbled or his beagles jumped a rabbit.
James loved his family, his dogs and sharing his love for the outdoors. May his life remind us all to live life to the fullest and with passion and purpose.
The family will receive friends during visitation from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, May 7, at Currie Funeral Home in Kilmarnock. The family will hold a private graveside service.
