KILMARNOCK— Kilmarnock Police Officer Nick Goodwyn was presented a life saving award during a Monday, May 18, town council meeting.

According to Police Sgt. William Russell, Goodwyn responded with the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office to a critical incident involving a man in severe crisis who was threatening to take his own life with a firearm on March 8.
Goodwyn attempted to deescalate the situation inside a bedroom where the male actively held a firearm to his head. Despite prolonged negotiations, the situation remained extremely volatile and life-threatening, Russell said.
According to Russell, a Lancaster County deputy deployed his taser in an effort to stop the male from harming himself. With no hesitation and disregard for his own personal safety, Goodwyn immediately rushed to the armed individual, securing the firearm that remained in the male’s hand, rendering the scene safe for everyone present.
