KILMARNOCK—After “thoughtful consideration and encouragement from members of the community” Kilmarnock Mayor Shawn Donahue announced this week that he has decided to seek reelection.
“I had not initially planned to run again but after conversations with residents, business owners and colleagues, it became clear that this is a pivotal time for our town,” said Donahue. “There is important work underway and I believe continuity in leadership will help ensure we see it through successfully.”
The upcoming election cycle marks a significant period of transition for Kilmarnock’s leadership, according to a related press release from Donahue. Half of the council seats will be on the ballot, the town manager’s contract is up for renewal and the town has seen the appointment of a new treasurer following more than three decades of service. In addition, several positions also will be transitioning.
“These are not small changes,” Donahue said. “They represent a moment where experience, stability, and forward-thinking leadership matter more than ever.”
