Fourth place Essex gave top-ranked Lancaster all it could handle on Thursday, May 14. The Red Devils edged the Trojans, 2-1, in the regular season finale. Back-to-back wins over Essex last week ended a 17-4 campaign for the Devils, who finished first in both the Northern Neck District and Region 1A.

Lancaster defeated Essex, 8-3, in a district tournament semifinal on Tuesday, May 19, and was scheduled to host Rappahannock in the championship game on Wednesday, May 20.

As the region’s top seed, Lancaster will host eighth place West Point on Thursday, May 28, in a region quarterfinal.
