Quarter auction
Callao Brewing Company, 129 Northumberland Highway, Callao, will host a quarter auction on Saturday, May 30, to benefit the construction of the Hometown Community Park. Registration will begin at 3 p.m., the auction start at 4 p.m.
The entry fee of $20 will cover a numbered paddle. Additional paddles will be available for $5 each.
Archives tour
Vice president of research and collections Dr. Gordon Blaine Steffey will present Stratford Vault Sessions: Documenting the Revolution from 2-4 p.m. Sunday, May 31, at Stratford Hall Historic Preserve, 483 Great House Road, Stratford.
The tour will offer exclusive access to significant documents held by Stratford Hall. Tickets are $46.90 at stratfordhall.org.
Chicken dinners
Chicken dinners will be available from 4:30-6 p.m. on first Mondays at American Legion Post #117, 39 School Street, Reedville.
Meals include fried chicken, mashed potatoes, choice of vegetables, salad, roll, dessert and drink. Dinners are $12 for adults and $6 for children ages 12 and younger, at the door.
SAR to meet
The Richard Henry Lee Chapter, Sons of the American Revolution, will meet June 9 at the Bayne Conference Center, Historic Christ Church and Museum, 420 Christ Church Road, Weems. A social period will begin at 11:30 a.m. and lunch will be served at noon. Retired U.S. Coast Guard Commander John D. Hooper will speak about the Navy’s role in the Chesapeake, under Commodore James Barron and his small fleet, during the American Revolution.
The luncheon fee is $20. Reservations are due by June 5. For reservations contact Stu Kramer, 366-1277, or stukramer@gmail.com, and confirm special meal requirements at the that time. Guests are welcome.
Beekeepers
The Northern Neck Beekeepers Club meets at 7 p.m. on second Mondays at Heathsville United Methodist Church, 39 Courthouse Road, Heathsville.
History talk
The Historic Christ Church & Museum (HCC&M) Summer Speaker Series will open at 5 p.m. June 11 in the Bayne Center, HCC&M, 420 Christ Church Road, Weems. Tony Williams will present “All Men are Created Equal: The Declaration of Independence and Black Freedom Suits & Freedom Petitions.”
The event will include a presentation and a wine and cheese reception with the speaker. Tickets are $50 per speaker, or $140 for the series at christchurch1735.org/programs.
Concert by the Creek
Faron Hamblin will return to the Reedville Fishermen’s Museum, 504 Main Street Reedville June 13 for a night of rollicking. The Concert by the Creek will be held from 6-9 p.m. in the pavilion. Tickets are $25. Buy for will-call at www.rfmuseum.org, or the door.
Picnic baskets are permitted. However, no outside beverages are allowed on the grounds. A food truck and full beverage bar will be available on-site.
