HEATHSVILLE—One person is dead and another hospitalized following a double shooting in Northumberland County over the weekend, according to Northumberland County Sheriff Johnny Beauchamp.
Officers responded to the 100 block of Ice Pond Road at approximately 9:40 p.m. Sunday, May 31, where one victim was pronounced dead at the scene. A second person, also suffering from a gunshot wound, was airlifted to VCU Hospital in Richmond.
According to Sheriff Beauchamp, the incident appeared to be a domestic-related shooting and alcohol was involved. There are no other suspects being sought in connection to the shooting and there is no threat to the community.
The names of the victims are being withheld until all relatives have been contacted, said Sheriff Beauchamp.
The shooting remains under investigation.
