Lancaster and Northumberland to send stand-outs to state track meet

Middlesex High scored a double victory on Wednesday, May 27. The Chargers boys and girls track and field teams won the Region 1A meets at Charles City.

The MHS boys split its win with Rappahannock—both teams tied with 123 points as co-champions. Ten teams scored in the boys meet. Northampton placed third with 73 points; Essex, fourth, 72; Lancaster, fifth, 67; and Northumberland, sixth, 62.

The Chargers girls team had a clear victory over the runner-up Raiders with 127.5 points. Rappahannock scored 94.5 for second place, while the Lancaster girls finished third in the 11-team meet with 73 points. Northampton took fourth in the girls meet with 71 points; and Northumberland, fifth, 56.

The top four placers in each event plus those competitors who met state criteria in a prior meet will compete Friday and Saturday, June 5-6, in the Virginia High School League Class 1 championships at James Madison….
