Lancaster girls team advances to Class 1A state tennis tournament

What a difference a year makes.

The Lancaster girls tennis team, with just three players in 2025, is now nine-players strong and has advanced to the Class 1 state tournament as the Region 1A runner-up.

Sophomore McKenzie Pittman beat Avril Vaughn to win the Region 1A singles championship and advance to the Class 1 singles tournament. Pittman and sophomore partner Finley Major also won the Region 1A doubles championship, 6-2, 6-1, over Lyla Duff and Ella Ward of Mathews. Both of those matches, along with the region singles and doubles semifinal matches, were played at Mathews High School on Tuesday, June 2.
