July 4 parade

The Irvington Hometown Parade will step off at 3 p.m. on Independence Day, Saturday, July 4. The parade will honor America’s rich history, patriotism and community spirit. The parade will feature decorated golf carts, bicycles, community organizations, classic vehicles, bands and patriotic displays.

Community members, businesses, civic organizations, clubs and families are urged to participate. Parade registration is available at https://irvingtonva.gov/july4parade/. The submission deadline is Friday, June 26.

History Day

Historic Christ Church & Museum, 420 Christ Church Road, Weems, will welcome visitors of all ages to VA250 History Day from 10 a.m.- 4 p.m. Saturday, June 27. Celebrate the 250th anniversary of the nation’s independence with immersive exhibitions, living history, children’s activities, history booths, food trucks and tours of one of Virginia’s most remarkable colonial landmarks.

Displays will include The Virginia Museum of History & Culture exhibition Give Me Liberty: Virginia & The Forging of a Nation and The VA250 Mobile Museum Experience, Out of Many, One, a “museum on wheels.”

Benefit concert

The Band From Misfit Beach will give a benefit concert from 3-6 p.m. Sunday, June 28, at Tiki Windmill, 56 Windjammer Lane, White Stone. Donations will be accepted for the Northern Neck—Middlesex Free Health Clinic.

July 4 concert

Rockfish & the Rivermen will give a concert from 1-4 p.m. July 4 on the porch of the Steamboat Era Museum at the Irvington Commons, 98 King Carter Drive, Irvington.

Tides of History

The Steamboat Era Museum, in partnership with The Tides Inn, will present Raising the USS Monitor, part of the Tides of History Speaker Series, at 6 p.m. Tuesday, June 30, in the Osprey Room at The Tides Inn, 480 King Carter Drive, Irvington.

Dr. Anna Holloway will share the story of the USS Monitor, the discoveries made and the preservation of one of the first ironclads to see naval service during the American Civil War. The program is free, reservations are not required.

Community 4th

The Morattico Waterfront Museum recently announced plans for its annual community Independence Day celebration, Saturday, July 4. Parade participants will line up at 10:30 a.m. at 5863 Morattico Road. Everyone is reminded to decorate their entries in the spirit of the celebration.
