Forging memories: Tavern’s Grandparents Camp sparks creativity, heritage and family traditions

Sparks flew from the blacksmith’s forge. Hammers rang against glowing steel. Sewing needles stitched colorful patterns, spinning wheels hummed and sawdust filled the air as grandparents and grandchildren laughed, learned and created during another unforgettable Tavern’s Grandparents Camp at the Northern Neck Heritage Arts Center at Rice’s Hotel/Hughlett’s Tavern in Heathsville.

The weeklong camp has become one of the Heritage Arts Center’s most popular and eagerly anticipated summer traditions, attracting families from across the  Northern Neck, said Rice’s Hotel/Hughlett’s Tavern Foundation marketing coordinator Alan Pitts. More than a camp, it is a celebration of family, craftsmanship and history….
