WICOMICO CHURCH—Edloe Morecock III, 81, of Wicomico Church passed away at Riverside Walter Reed Hospital on August 19, 2026.
He was born June 18, 1945, in Newport News, the son of Edloe Jr. and Elsie Mae (Coates) Morecock. Edloe was a proud graduate of Hampton High School’s class of 1964, where he proudly wore number 44 for Crabbers Football.
After a year at Pineland College, Edwards Military Institute, he enlisted in the USMC where he spent most of his days assigned to duties on the USS WASP, CVS-18. It was here that he became a “distinguished member of the Exalted Order of GREX (Gemini Recovery Experts)” on June 6, 1966, and MITROGS (Master in Recovery of Gemini Spacecraft) on November 15, 1966. As part of the entertainment for the astronauts, he became the “Mighty Stinger’s” undefeated boxing champion.
In 1981, after many years working in the field and multiple credit hours of coursework at ODU and VMI, Edloe earned the title of Certified Land Surveyor. It was in this capacity that he spent the duration of his working career, certified in both Virginia and North Carolina.
In 2009, he fulfilled his dream of earning his Captain’s license and taking fishing charters out into the Chesapeake Bay and tributaries in his center console. He was at his best when able to entertain and educate others.
Edloe‘s presence filled every room he entered with love and laughter. Many remember his many pig pickin’s at his home on Sarah Creek, and the joy he exuded when dressing up for Halloween to join his grandchildren trick or treating! His family brought him the greatest love he had known, and with each new addition, whether by birth or marriage, his joy only grew.
Survivors include his wife, Wendy; his daughters, Stephanie Ortery (Bryan, Sr.) and Katy Mustian; his bonus sons, Ted (Valerie) Mims and Bran (Amanda) Mims; his grandchildren, Logan, Morgan, Spencer and Carter; and his great-granddaughter, Ryleigh. Bonus grandchildren include Alex, Bryan Jr., Josh, Branson, Adelaide, Neil and Lilly. Edloe will be missed by his many nieces, nephews and cousins and his stubborn beagle Cappy.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his sisters, Nancy Page Smith Mitchell and Judith Beverly Milteer Foster.
Visitation will be held from 6-7:30 p.m. Friday, August 28, at Hogg Funeral Home.
