Directors Doug Dillard and Karen Stanley recently announced auditions for the upcoming Lancaster Players production of “It’s a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play,” adapted by Joe Landry. Auditions will be held from 7-9 p.m. September 15 and 16 at The Playhouse, 361 Chesapeake Drive, White Stone.
The casting call is for 3-5 men and 2-3 women as an ensemble of radio actors who bring a few dozen characters to the stage for the story of idealistic George Bailey as he considers what life would have been like if he had never existed one fateful Christmas Eve, said Dillard. There also are on-stage opportunities for singers to join the cast in performing 1940s-commercial jingles.
“Sound effects, created by Foley artists (sound technicians) and actors, bring the radio-studio atmosphere to life throughout the performance,” he said. Rehearsals are expected to be 1-1/2 to 2 hours, three or four times a week, beginning the week of September 22. Performances are scheduled for three weekends, beginning November 6.
