Young man dies in automobile accident

LANCASTER—J’seric Khari Jones, 18, of Lottsburg died Saturday, September 5, following a single-vehicle accident, according to the Virginia State Police (VSP).

At 10:08 p.m. VSP responded to 10700 block of Courthouse Road in Lancaster where a 2001 Honda sedan driven by Jones had run off the right side of the road, overturned and struck a utility pole, reported VSP Division I public information officer Sgt. Jessica B. Shehan. Jones was entrapped in the vehicle and following extrication was taken to Bon Secours Rappahannock General Hospital in Kilmarnock, where he was pronounced deceased. Jones was the driver and sole occupant of the car.

Jones was a 2026 graduate of Lancaster High School, where he was a defensive tackle on the varsity football team and had competed on the indoor and outdoor track and field teams. Known fondly as “Stew,” Jones was chosen by his classmates as king of the 2025 homecoming court.

The crash remains under investigation, said Sgt. Sheehan. The preliminary investigation indicates speed contributed to the crash. Alcohol is not believed to have been a factor.
