IRVINGTON—Anne “Nancy” Lee Reath, 99, departed this life on September 13, 2026. Nancy and her identical twin, Laura, were born on February 18, 1927, in Washington, D.C., to P. Blair and Elizabeth Wayne Lee.
Shortly thereafter the family moved to Chestnut Hill, Pa. The twins attended Chatham Hall in Virginia and Smith College. Nancy completed her undergraduate degree at the University of Pennsylvania.
Nancy married her beloved husband Robert Andrews Reath in 1949 and continued to reside in Philadelphia until 1969 when they moved to Dallas, Texas. In 1979 they moved to Weems. They were married for 33 years until his untimely death in 1981. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Joseph Wayne Lee; and her twin sister, Laura Lee Thompson Bullitt.
She is survived by her children, Andrews Reath (Blandine), David Brooke Reath (Lisa), Elizabeth Wayne Wineland (Richard), Nancy Reath O’Shaughnessy (John) and Susan Reath Coad (Daryl), 13 grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren with her 18th great-grandchild expected in December 2026.
She was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and considered raising her family the most significant part of her life. Nancy was an excellent athlete. She loved riding horses in her early years, and she was an avid tennis player most of her life. She was a prolific artist, and she painted in many different mediums. She attended numerous art workshops, showed her work in various galleries and was an active member of the Rappahannock Art League.
In the 1960s, she volunteered as a reading tutor, working especially with children who had learning difficulties. After her husband died, she completed requirements for Christian Pastoral Education at the Virginia Institute of Pastoral Care in Richmond. She was a long-time member of Grace Episcopal Church in Kilmarnock.
The family would like to specifically thank the nursing staff at Rappahannock Westminster-Canterbury as well as the wonderful caregivers associated with RWC At-Home for their compassionate care of our mom.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in her name to the Rappahannock Art League or the Scholarship Fund at Grace Episcopal Church, Kilmarnock.
A funeral service is planned at 4 p.m. Saturday, October 3, in the chapel of Grace Episcopal Church, Kilmarnock.
