
The final match for the 2026 Rappahannock Pistol and Rifle Club (RPRC) Championship was held Saturday, October 3.
The club conducts four matches for each of the three shooting disciplines: pistol, rifle and shotgun, reported competition director Dean Sherick. This match, Defensive Pistol, was well attended with 16 competitors under cool, cloudy fall skies.
The competitors utilize centerfire pistols, drawn from a holster to shoot a paper target 30 feet away, explained Sherick. The club used the Official Practice Target of the International Defensive Pistol Association that has a main area of 30-inches high and 18-inches wide. Within that area is a centered circle of 8-inches, an upper circle of 4-inches both of which have a zero score. Outside of the two circles, the immediate target area has a score of negative one closest to the circles and negative three for the balance of the target area.
