George A. McMahon

ASHBURN—George Anthony McMahon, 78, of Ashburn passed away on Wednesday, November 29, 2017, surrounded by his family. He was the husband of Nancy Jean Towey McMahon.

Born on February 5, 1939, in the Bronx, N.Y., he also lived in Ridgefield, Conn; Herndon and Kilmarnock.

George served in the U.S. Marine Corp as a corporal and was honorably discharged on March 11, 1966. He graduated from Manhattan College in New York with a bachelor’s in business administration. He also earned a master’s in business administration from Strayer University.

He worked for Bigelow Carpet in Manhattan, N.Y.; Autotax in Mount Kisco, N.Y.; National Wildlife Federation in Vienna; and retired from the U.S. Department of Justice, Bureau of Prisons in 2001.

He was a member of the Catholic Church and was a grand knight of the Knights of Columbus at Saint Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Kilmarnock.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by sons, George A. McMahon of Stafford, Thomas J. McMahon of Round Hill, Brendan T. McMahon of Purcellville, Terrance P. McMahon of Fredericksburg; daughter, Maura E. Rickman of Potomac, Md.; grandchildren, Liam T. McMahon, Keegan C. McMahon, Kayla R. McMahon and Madeleine F. Rickman; sisters, Christine Flood and Eileen Gimblet; and brother, Brian McMahon.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Elizabeth McMahon; brother Thomas McMahon and sister, Kathleen Doriand.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, December 5, at St. Theresa Catholic Church, 21371 St. Theresa Lane, Ashburn, VA 20147. Family received friends one hour before the service.
