Northumberland and Lancaster finish one and two in district wrestling tournament

Northumberland had eight Northern Neck District champions and one runner-up to score 276 points for the team trophy at last week’s district tournament in Claraville.

Lancaster was second with 197 points, Washington & Lee third with 155 and Essex fourth with 83. All four teams will advance to the Region 1A championships at Riverheads High School in Staunton on February 9.

Lancaster’s Domonique Veney, who was the 138 champion with two pins in last week’s tournament, was named the district’s wrestler of the year, while Kevin Keeve of Northumberland was named the coach of the year…
