Clearing hurdles, speakers express what they’re looking for in a school superintendent

It was short, but not particularly sweet. The Lancaster school board held a public hearing March 19 to learn from residents about the qualities they want in a new superintendent and it lasted a tense 20 minutes.

Despite school board chairman Audrey Thomasson’s warning that speakers stick to the topic of the hearing, most expressed anger with the board’s February 19 dismissal of Dr. Steve Parker, a superintendent they liked and respected.
