Hailey Smith won the 1600-meter run and finished third in the 800 meter to lead the Lancaster girls track team to a ninth-place finish at Christopher Newport University’s 35th annual High School Captains Classic last Friday and Saturday.
Class 5 Grassfield won the meet with 97 points and Hickory High School was second with 84. New Kent took third with 59.5 and York fourth with 52.
Lancaster was the only Class 1 school to compete and scored 31 points for ninth place among 21 schools.
In the boys meet, Lancaster was 16th out of 22 larger schools…
