Lancaster supervisors stay the course with broadband authority

LANCASTER—The board of supervisors on Thursday, August 29, unanimously followed a Lancaster County Broadband Authority (LCBA) recommendation not to join a multi-county initiative to improve or expand broadband service, opting instead to continue on its own course.

Updating the board on LCBA progress, chairman Cassie Thompson reported they recently held a special meeting to start the process for issuing a formal request for information from interested parties and potential vendors to design and implement a comprehensive plan for extending service to the entire county.

On behalf of the authority, she recommended Lancaster not join the seven-county Virginia Telecommunications Initiative, designed to extend broadband service to unserved areas by helping finance the “last-mile services” in rural areas…
