LANCASTER—On March 20, Lancaster County and the Lancaster County Broadband Authority (LCBA) filed an application for a federal grant to design and build a high-speed broadband network to bring broadband services to 2,697 unserved and underserved homes and businesses in the county.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Utilities Service (RUS) administers this grant program, called ReConnect, to provide service where none presently exists. As a practical matter, this means the service areas will be the places in the county that are not already connected using cable television, reported chairman Cassie Thompson.
“Lancaster applied for a $25 million ReConnect grant and the county also agreed to contribute up to $8.3 million to the project, if we receive the award,” said Thompson.
