Hooper hearings delayed again

LANCASTER—Amid COVID-19 concerns, hearings related to the involuntary manslaughter trial of John Randolph “Rand” Hooper of Richmond have been delayed until September.

Retired Judge Charles Poston of Norfolk was supposed to hear matters related to the case in Lancaster County Circuit Court last week. However, the defense requested a continuance which was agreed upon by Northumberland County Commonwealth’s Attorney Jane B. Wrightson, who has been appointed to represent the Commonwealth in a motion to disqualify Lancaster County Commonwealth’s Attorney Anthony Spencer.

Wrightson agreed to continue the proceedings “because the judicial orders remain prohibiting non-emergency hearings,” she said.

“In light of the pandemic, we agreed with the request,” said Wrightson.
