CLARAVILLE—Several people working in person at Northumberland County Public Schools have tested positive for the COVID-19 virus.
The district temporarily closed Friday, September 18, due to a potential COVID-19 exposure by a teacher working at the high school and a student who attends the elementary school in person. Schools reopened the following Monday, and although several people tested positive later that week, the district did not close its school buildings a second time. Students in grades pre-K through third currently have the option to attend school in-person two days a week.

“Each case is reviewed by the Three Rivers Health District, and then the Three Rivers Health District makes recommendations based on the specifics of the case. In other words, each case is unique, and metrics such as number of close contacts, time spent in the building, number of possible COVID-19 exposures at one time, etc., determine the health department’s recommendations to the school division regarding remaining open and/or closing,” said superintendent Holly Wargo.
