Accountant pens children’s book

It is never too early to start learning financial literacy. Local accountant and now author, Roslyn Haynie Banks, has made that possible with a new children’s book, Adelaide the Accountant.

The idea of the book, “a pandemic project,” came about when Career Day at Northumberland Elementary School was canceled. Haynie Banks, a graduate of Northumberland schools, decided to turn that career day presentation into a picture book.

The book takes Adelaide, a tax accountant, through a week helping small business owners and community helpers in science, technology, engineering, arts and math. Throughout the story, Adelaide explains how the tax system works and why they are paid.

“This is a subject that isn’t taught in schools,” Haynie Banks said. “I wanted to empower children to understand how money works. It’s called currency because….
