Speaker series to bring Revolutionary preacher Gowan Pamphlet to life

Colonial Williamsburg historian and re-enactor James Ingram Jr. will present “The Revolutionary Black Baptist Preacher Gowan Pamphlet” at 2 p.m. Sunday, October 17 at Historic Christ Church & Museum (HCC&M), 420 Christ Church Road, Weems.

One of the country’s first ordained black ministers, Pamphlet led a congregation that grew from a few followers gathered on the outskirts of Williamsburg to a membership of 500 worshippers, reported Foundation for Historic Christ Church executive director Robert J. Teagle.
