Supervisors grant permit for Glebe Point aquaculture site, receive input on school issues

HEATHSVILLE—Following a public hearing with no comment, the Northumberland board of supervisors on May 12 voted 5-0 to grant a conditional use permit to Hacks Neck Farms and Myles Cockrell to develop an aquaculture operation on the Great Wicomico River at Glebe Point.

Claudette Lajoie, speaking on behalf of the applicant, said the new project would put “four 20 by 40 upwellers into existing slip areas as part of the Little Wicomico Oyster Company.” Lajoie said they are still working with the Virginia Marine Resources Commission for necessary permits.

Ronnie Jett, Richard Haynie, Thomas Tomlin, James Brann and James Long all voted in favor with suggested conditions that all….
